Shirasaya O-Tanto – Traditional Japanese display tanto
This Shirasaya O-Tanto is a traditional Japanese tanto featuring a 1045 Carbon Steel blade with authentic Shinogi-zukuri styling. The minimalist design includes a brown Magnolia wood handle and sheath, measuring 45.5cm in total length with a 29cm blade.
Construction and materials
The blade is forged from 1045 Carbon Steel in a classic tanto profile with bo-hi (groove). Total weight is 420 grams, with a 16.5cm handle providing adequate grip space. Both handle and sheath are crafted from unfinished Magnolia wood, complemented by a copper habaki collar for authentic detailing.
Application and use
This piece serves as a display sword for collectors of Japanese sword arts and traditional craftsmanship. Suitable for wall mounting or display stand presentation, it functions as a decorative element in Japanese-inspired interiors or as part of a sword collection.
Integration and compatibility
The tanto comes with a cotton storage sleeve for protection. The unfinished Magnolia wood naturally absorbs moisture, helping protect the carbon steel blade. Compatible with standard sword display stands and wall mounting systems for katanas and tantos.
Maintenance and lifecycle
Regular blade oiling prevents rust on the carbon steel. Store in the provided cotton sleeve when not displayed. The unfinished wood requires no special treatment but benefits from occasional conditioning to maintain appearance over years of display use.
